Good old moroccan fish! Classic good dinner recipe, great for shabbat

Instructions

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced or diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce (or crushed tomatoes)
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • 1.5–2 lbs of white fish (cod, halibut, or similar)
  • Chopped cilantro or parsley (to top)
  • Optional: 1 lemon, sliced

Steps

  1. In a large deep pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion, peppers, garlic, and spices. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until softened.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, water, and tomato paste. Let it simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes.
  4. Pat the fish dry and season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Nestle the pieces into the sauce.
  5. Cover the pan and let the fish simmer for about 15–20 minutes, or until it is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  6. Top with chopped cilantro or parsley and lemon slices, if desired.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite side dish.
